Codes of Conduct

The Sample Codes of Conduct included in the Concussion Protocol are intended to support school boards with their requirements to develop and implement Codes of Conduct for interschool activities. There are three Sample Codes of Conduct, each geared to the roles and responsibilities of the individuals involved in interschool activities.

School board policy must include strategies to receive confirmation that the appropriate Codes of Conduct have been consulted each school year and prior to participation in school-board-sponsored interschool athletics from:

  • Students participating in interschool athletics
  • Parents/guardians of students participating in interschool athletics
  • Coaches participating in interschool athletics
  • Team trainers in interschool athletics (Ontario Ministry of Education, PPM 158, 2020)

School board policy should also include strategies for making the Codes of Conduct available (e.g., through letters or emails, in a student handbook, and/or on the board website) to:

  • Students
  • Parents/guardians
  • School and school board staff
  • Volunteers
  • Indigenous communities, partners, and organizations
  • Organizations that use school facilities such as community sport organizations and licensed child-care providers operating in the school board's schools
  • Relevant community-based organizations (as appropriate)
