E-Learning Modules
Ophea’s interactive e-Learning modules are 1-2 hours in length and feature a variety of instructional methods. Throughout the e-Learnings module participants will engage in a variety of learning tasks. Participants will also engage in reflection activities during which they will consider what is being asked and make connections to their own knowledge and experiences. Certificates of completion are provided once modules are completed successfully.
Concussion Prevention, Identification, and Management for Schools
Ophea’s Concussion Prevention, Identification, and Management for Schools e-Learning module was developed to increase awareness and understanding of concussion and of the methods and strategies to be used for identification and appropriate management of concussions. The module also includes strategies and resources to assist in concussion prevention and education. This e-Learning module is intended for all school staff including educators, administrators, and support staff.
By the end of this e-Learning module participants will increase their awareness and understanding of the following:
- Why concussion education is important
- What a concussion is (including, the definition, signs and symptoms, and seriousness of concussions)
- How to identify and to respond to a suspected concussion
- How to support students returning to school, including returning to learning and returning to physical activity after being diagnosed with a concussion
- Strategies and resources to assist in concussion prevention and education

Implementing Ryan’s Law and PPM 161: Ensuring Asthma Friendly Schools
This e-Learning module is designed to support school staff in understanding and applying Ryan’s Law in their school to support the safety and well-being of students with asthma. It facilitates the implementation of PPM 161: Supporting Children and Students with Prevalent Medical Conditions (Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, and/or Epilepsy) in Schools related to students with asthma.
By completing this e-Learning module participants will:
- Understand asthma including its triggers, symptoms, medications, exercise and asthma, and how to support students with asthma.
- Understand how to recognize and respond to asthma attacks (sometimes referred to as asthma episodes, asthma exacerbations, worsening asthma or asthma flare-ups) and the importance of asthma control.
- Understand Ryan’s Law, its origin, and its legal implications including PPM 161.
- Learn about goals and strategies for creating asthma friendly school communities.
- Learn about resources and implementation supports available to assist them in creating asthma friendly school communities.
- Engage in a variety of learning activities using text, video, and illustrations.
Supporting Students with Prevalent Medical Conditions
This e-Learning module is designed to support school boards in fulfilling their responsibility to provide annual training and resources on prevalent medical conditions for all school staff. It facilitates the implementation of PPM 161: Supporting Children and Students with Prevalent Medical Conditions (Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, and/or Epilepsy) in Schools.
By completing this e-Learning module participants will learn:
- legal requirements that inform school boards’ policies and procedures for supporting students with prevalent medical conditions in school;
- the roles and collective responsibilities of school boards, principals, school staff, students, and parent(s)/guardian(s) in managing prevalent medical conditions;
- strategies for supporting the inclusion and participation of students with prevalent medical conditions in school;
- the four prevalent medical conditions, including their definition, prevalence, and impact on students;
- daily management and risk reduction strategies to minimize student exposure to triggers and causative agents;
- signs and symptoms of medical incidents and emergencies, and the steps to respond effectively; and
- additional strategies and resources developed by health and education partners.

Workshop Requests
Ophea offers fee-for-service workshops year round. Workshops are $815 + incidentals per workshop or a discounted price of $1120 + incidentals for two of the same workshop (must be at the same location on the same day by the same trainer). Ophea’s workshops are developed by educators and subject matter experts and delivered in-person by qualified Ophea Trainers. These interactive professional learning workshops are 2.5 hours in length and feature a variety of facilitated instructional methods to meet the needs of diverse learners. At the conclusion of each workshop learners are equipped with the knowledge and skills that will support them in their work.
