Ophea's Office Hours are recorded sessions on a variety of safety-related topics. These virtual roundtable discussions are hosted by educators for educators and are designed to explore new ideas with educators from across the province.
Fall Safety Virtual Check-in: Concussion
This session will focuses on updates to the Concussion Protocol for Ontario schools on the OPASSE website. The updated concussion information aligns with the latest research and provides school boards with information and tools they need to meet the policy requirements outlined in School Board Policies on Concussion (PPM 158). The purpose of this session is to provide System Leaders with an opportunity to connect with presenters from Ophea, Parachute, and PedsConcussion to increase understanding of the evidence and key updates to the Concussion Protocol, identify tools and resources available to support school board implementation, share current school board implementation plans, and ask questions and identify additional areas of support.

Ontario Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education (OPASSE) Mid-Year Virtual Check-in Session
The purpose of the Mid-Year Safety Check-in Session is to provide an opportunity for School Board Safety leads to: Explore this school year's (2024-2025) safety priorities and the related implementation supports available. The main focus is on the Types of Supervision updates and the new Disability-Centred Movement Tool & Resource on OPASSE; gain insight into the safety priorities planned for the 2025-2026 school year which include Swim Assessment and Concussion Protocol updates; and identify potential supports/resource needed to assist school boards with implementation of safety practices.

Supervision
Supervision is a key component that contributes to a culture of safety mindedness and a risk management approach. This Office Hours session is intended to support school boards and schools with the updates that have been made to OPASSE for the 2024-2025 school year. Specifically, increasing understanding of the rationale for the updates; increasing awareness of the new definitions added to support implementation of the standards; and provides an opportunity to explore the updates that have been made for each type of Supervision and the practical application to school board/school implementation.
