Being aware of, managing, and communicating with students about the hazards and risks associated with physical activity will assist with the establishment and maintenance of a safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environment for students to be physically active. Some examples in OPASSE include, being aware of:
- Student medical conditions that may affect full participation of student (for example, asthma, anaphylaxis, casts, previous concussion, orthopaedic device).
- Environmental conditions that may pose a risk to student safety (for example, weather and insects).
- Equipment and facilities inspection procedures (visual), prior to student participation, to minimize potential hazards that may injure students.
- Equipment used is in good repair and safe for use.
- School Board protocols and procedures to be followed throughout HPE, intramurals, and interschool activities.
- School Board Emergency Action Plan to respond to emergency situations when they arise.
