Hockey (Ice Hockey Games)

Shinny - Lead-Up Games : Activity where there is no goalie and the puck (for example, plastic/foam ball, plastic or soft rubber puck) is not to leave the ice surface at any time.

Ice Hockey Game: Activity using a goalie, a regulation puck where the puck will be leaving ice surface (for example, lifting).
Equipment

Full hockey equipment is required as per Hockey Canada standards.

properly fitted (as per manufacturer’s guidelines) and properly worn CSA approved hockey helmet

a throat protector

shin pads – cracked shin pads must be replaced immediately

pants, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves;

athletic cup/pelvic protector

Goalies must wear, as per Hockey Canada standards:

a properly fitted (as per manufacturer’s guidelines) and properly worn CSA approved helmet with face mask; or a CSA approved goalie mask

a throat protector
-
catcher, blocker, pants, and goalie pads that must be properly fitted

chest and arm protector

a cup/pelvic protector

Sticks:

Regulation hockey sticks

Butt end must be covered with tape or a commercially-made butt end

Cracked or splintered sticks must not be used

Clothing/Footwear/Jewellery

Players must wear properly fitting player ice hockey skates. Goalies must wear properly fitting player or goalie ice hockey skates.

No exposed jewellery permitted.
Facilities
-
Ice surface must be free from debris and deep ruts.

Break away net mandatory.

Ice Hockey

Slap shots may be taught in an instructional setting but are not allowed during games.

No intentional contact (i.e. body-on-body [for example, body check], stick-on-body [for example, cross checking], or stick-on-stick [for example, slashing]).

All rules must be clearly outlined and enforced. Infractions or penalties must be called.
