When planning for safety during physical activities it is important to take a consistent and collaborative approach. To support this approach the OPASSE website includes a specific section for administrators. The information and direction in this section assists principals and supervisory officers with the planning and implementation of safe physical activity programs (i.e., curricular, intramural, interschool) and provides information to help minimize the inherent element of risk and hazards.
The administrator section includes:
- information on the Duties of Care: providing an overview of the responsibilities for supervisory officers, principals/designates, and teachers;
- sample principal/designate checklists and a sample supervisory officers checklist: identifying the necessary responsibilities to provide for a safe physical activity program (i.e., curricular, interschool, and intramural); and
- resources specific to administrator roles in ensuring the health and safety of their students during physical activities (e.g., Supporting Children and Students with Prevalent Medical Conditions).
