Concussion Protocol and Tools

The Ontario Physical Education Safety Guidelines (OPESG) is a living document. Concussion information and procedures for the components of prevention, identification and management are always evolving with new research. In order to keep users of this document up-to-date with the newest information and procedures this document will be reviewed and revised where necessary on a yearly basis.  School boards and users of this document are advised to refer to the OPESG each and every year in September. Where revisions are of a critical nature Ophea will inform its users through electronic notification.

The content within the concussion packages was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the ThinkFirst Concussion Education and Awareness Committee, and the Recognition and Awareness Working Group of the Mild Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussion Strategy.

Additional Concussion Resources

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care have developed a web portal with additional resources focusing on the prevention, identification and management of concussion and organized by audience (e.g., parents, educators, coaches, officials, athletes, children, youth and health care providers).
